We Helped Create the Benchmarks

Rampart's index option strategies draw on the principles and structure of the Chicago Board Options Exchange CBOE® S&P 500® BuyWrite Index (BXMSM). In fact, we were the first licensee of the BXM, the first major industry-accepted benchmark to illustrate the attractiveness of the covered call investment concept.

Since the inception of the BXM, several additional indexes, including the CBOE® S&P 500® 2% OTM BuyWrite Index (BXYSM), have launched in the marketplace. The BXY provides potentially greater return than the BXM at a modest increase in risk levels.

These strategies can serve as overlays for passively managed index funds and actively managed large cap portfolios in the tax-exempt marketplace, without affecting the underlying equity managers. In addition, they can have positive features for taxable investors with appropriate underlying portfolios.

Past performance does not guarantee future results. The CBOE S&P 500 BuyWrite Index (BXMSM) is designed to represent a proposed hypothetical buy-write strategy. Like many passive indexes, the BXM Index does not take into account significant factors such as transaction costs and taxes and, because of factors such as these, many or most investors should be expected to underperform passive indexes. Investors attempting to replicate the BXM Index should discuss with their brokers possible timing and liquidity issues. Transaction costs and taxes for a buy-write strategy such as the BXM could be significantly higher than transaction costs for a passive strategy of buying-and-holding stocks.
